Humana Golf Tournament

Mary and I both worked the Humana Golf Tournament (previously the Bob Hope) this week. It was a lot of fun. We were both assigned to "mobile device enforcement". Sounds pretty official doesn't it. Well our job was to remind people to not talk on their cell phones, keep them on silent or vibrate, and no pictures. Cell phones used to not even be allowed at the course but now they are so prevalent they are allowed but policed by volunteers like us. Of course we had radios to call for help if people were uncooperative, but that didn't happen.
Each day we walked with a group rather than stay in one place. I walked with Lee Janzen and an Australian rookie the first day. The next day we lobbied to be assigned to St. Louisan Scott Langley and they obliged.
It was fun watching him play since he was at middle school when Mary was there. She once even took a group, including him, to Family Golf for an after school outing. Obviously he learned a lot from her!
Ran into some people from St. Louis that were following him. Ron from Greenbriar who is a  neighbor of our friends Sara and Bill. He said they set a high bar for lawn care! And ran into Jim Jaeger's son Kevin and his girlfriend. Was able to reminisce about the Chilly Open playoff victory that my partner Bill and I achieved over them years ago. The loss is still painful for them.
The next day I had Spencer Levin and Ryo Ishikawa, Mary had Chad Campbell and Chris DiMarco. It really is fun following the same group the whole round so see how they prepare and play every shot.
Sunday we didn't work and just followed Scott who did pretty well, tied for 18th. Russell Knox from Scotland was also in the group and also played well. His mother was following along and was very enjoyable to talk to.
Overall it was a lot of fun. Enjoyed talking to people around the course and met some fun fellow volunteers. Got the usual hat, shirt, jacket, lunch and a drink each day, and a luncheon after the tournament.
Also supposed to get a round of golf at one of the courses at PGA West. Still looking for that.
Weather continues to be wonderful. Sorry our St. Louis friends are not enjoying winter so much.
Photos later!

Palm Springs

I have resolved to do better at updating the blog this year. So hopefully you will see more frequent posts, unless I conclude they contain nothing of value. We are still trying to better manage photos so they may be posted separately.

Well we finally have arrived at nice winter weather in a very nice RV resort.
We have warm days (70-80), cool nights (50 or so), several pools, tennis, pickleball, and an 18 hole par 3 golf course.
We haven't tried pickleball yet. Plan to get lessons next week. It is basically a small tennis court with paddles resembling ping pong paddles and a ball that resembles a wiffle ball. It seems to be very popular with us old people who do not like the idea of trying to cover an entire tennis court. And there seems to be a lot of socializing and drinking afterward. Just our kind of activity.
I have participated in two golf scrambles on the course and my team has finished in the money both times. I'm way ahead of my Meadowbrook record (thanks for reminding me Barry).
We attended a rv FMCA rally just down the street. Always enjoy looking at the latest vehicles and what they contain. Usually learn something of value for our travels, from places to go to things to do to improve our coach. And of course things to buy.
Enjoyed a nice evening with Denny and Janine who are visiting the area for a couple weeks. Always enjoy seeing friends from home.
Next week working the Humana PGA golf tournament.
